Serbia drug seizure exposes North Macedonian cannabis smuggling ring
Authorities in Serbia have seized five tons of marijuana, uncovering a smuggling operation linked to medical cannabis producers in North Macedonia. The investigation points to the Skopje-based Alfafarm Group, where an additional 10 tons of marijuana and over 1,300 bottles of cannabis oil were seized.
The smuggling scheme involved transporting drugs under the guise of legitimate medical supplies. In several instances, narcotics were swapped for items such as pillows, organs, bedding, or even cakes to bypass customs. The drugs were reportedly unloaded near Konjuh, Kruševac, for repackaging before resale.
Two suspects have already pleaded guilty and reached agreements with prosecutors. The investigation has expanded to include seven additional suspects. This case is part of a broader inquiry in North Macedonia involving raids on over 40 licensed medical cannabis production companies to determine the destination of illegal stocks.
