Serbia implements digital payment verification for state fees

As of September 16, all Serbian state authorities and local governments are required to register with the ‘Plati’ (Pay) system. This transition aims to eliminate the need for citizens to present paper receipts when paying state fees or taxes.

Under the new regulations, administrative clerks must use the system to verify payments using a citizen’s unique identification number (JMBG), name, and surname. Once a payment is located in the system, the official marks it as completed, and the citizen is no longer required to provide physical proof of payment. While the Ministry of Internal Affairs has utilized this system for several years, the new mandate extends this requirement to all state and local institutions.

Failure to comply with these legal obligations can result in fines ranging from 30,000 to 150,000 dinars for the responsible officials or institutions. To ensure accuracy, officials are advised to generate necessary payment data directly through the ‘Plati’ system rather than using old templates.
