Serbia implements mandatory winter equipment regulations
Starting November 1, drivers in Serbia are required to equip their vehicles with winter tires and necessary winter gear under specific weather conditions. According to regulations, from November 1 to April 1, vehicles must use winter tires if the roadway is covered in snow, ice, or frost.
Beyond tires, drivers traveling outside inhabited areas must carry snow chains or other traction-enhancing devices in their trunks. In specific zones such as mountain approaches, bridges, or inclines where ice is common, chains must be mounted on the drive wheels. For buses and freight vehicles, carrying a shovel is also mandatory.
The Road Safety Agency notes that winter tires must have a minimum tread depth of 4 mm. Additionally, tires older than five years should undergo detailed annual inspections. While winter tires are not strictly mandatory if there is no snow, ice, or frost on the road, authorities recommend timely preparation for changing weather conditions.
