Serbia implements water control system for Borkovačko and Pavlovačko lakes
A new water management system is being constructed to regulate water levels in Borkovačko and Pavlovačko lakes in the Ruma municipality. The project includes the construction of a pumping station in Jarak and over 22 kilometers of pipeline to transport water from the Jaračka Jarčina canal.
Expected to be completed by April, the system will allow for controlled water replenishment at night. This infrastructure is designed to support the irrigation of approximately 3,500 hectares of orchards, vineyards, and other agricultural land during the day.
Local officials, including Ruma Mayor Dušan Ljubišić and Igor Kolaković, director of JVP ‘Vode Vojvodine’, noted that the project addresses the biological minimum water levels caused by climate change. Beyond agriculture, the stabilized water levels are intended to preserve the natural environment and boost local tourism and recreation.
