Serbia increases traffic police surveillance using drones

Serbian traffic police are intensifying road safety inspections across the country, utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to monitor critical sections of the road network. This increased surveillance aims to detect severe violations, including illegal overtaking, reckless driving, mobile phone use while driving, and failure to wear seatbelts.

In the Pirot region, specifically on the Pirot–Dimitrovgrad route, drone operations have already identified drivers performing illegal overtaking across solid lines. Violators face fines ranging from 20,000 to 40,000 dinars, potential imprisonment for up to 30 days, a minimum three-month driving ban, and six penalty points.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported alarming statistics for the month of September, noting that over 1,000 traffic accidents have occurred, resulting in 25 deaths and approximately 500 injuries. Police will focus patrols on high-risk areas where serious accidents have previously been recorded.
