Serbia infrastructure corruption and nuclear energy planning under scrutiny

Professors Vladimir Obradović and Ognjen Radonjić presented research in Oslo at the Concept Symposium 2026 regarding alleged corruption in the Novi Sad–Kelebija railway reconstruction project. Their work, titled ‘From Contract to Grave: The Novi Sad–Kelebija Railway Case. The Architecture of Corruption in a Captured State’, was presented before representatives from international institutions, including the IMF, the World Bank, and various European government agencies.

Separately, nuclear physics professor Miodrag Krmar has raised concerns regarding Serbia’s nuclear energy future. Krmar claims that the company responsible for planning Serbia’s nuclear power plants is the same firm involved in the Novi Sad railway station reconstruction and EXPO 2027 projects. The company in question, Egis, has previously been linked to the oversight of the Novi Sad–Subotica railway and was involved in certifying the safety of the Novi Sad station structure prior to the canopy collapse.
