Serbia introduces housing and social welfare support for families

The Serbian government has introduced new measures to support families and address demographic challenges. Jelena Žarićová-Kovačevićová, Minister for Family and Demography, announced that mothers with children under one year old can now combine two state support programs to assist with housing.

Under this arrangement, eligible mothers can apply for the purchase of a rural house with land valued up to 2.5 million dinars. This is achieved by combining a 1.5 million dinar grant from the Ministry for Rural Affairs with a 1 million dinar subsidy from the Ministry for Family and Demography intended for first-time property buyers. The initiative aims to improve the population structure in rural areas and provide concrete support during critical life stages.

In a separate social welfare update, Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, highlighted the distribution of one-time state assistance. Beneficiaries of child benefits received 25,000 dinars per child, while those entitled to cash social assistance received a one-time payment of 25,000 dinars. These payments were processed automatically based on official records to ensure support reaches families without additional bureaucratic procedures.
