Serbia issues fines for BlaBlaCar ride-sharing violations
Serbian misdemeanor courts have begun issuing fines to users of the ride-sharing application BlaBlaCar for illegal transport. Under the Law on Road Passenger Transport, individuals performing transport without carrier status can be penalized if they do so multiple times on routes served by public transport or if they charge for the service.
Legal expert Marija Milojković notes that the current legislation does not explicitly recognize ride-sharing, leading to the application of public transport regulations to these services. Fines for these violations can range from 50,000 to 150,000 dinars. The law classifies transport as illegal if it is a paid service, occurs on routes with existing scheduled lines, involves more than five passengers, or is advertised publicly.
