Serbia linked to $370 million cocaine seizures in Liberia and Italy
Liberian security forces uncovered a massive cocaine stash in Margibi County valued at more than $370 million and arrested several suspects, including a Serbian citizen who was carrying a Serbian diplomatic passport. The operation also detained a Colombian and a Spanish national.
In Italy, the financial police seized over 650 packages containing nearly 800 kg of high‑purity cocaine hidden in banana shipments from Ecuador that arrived at the port of Vado Ligure. Some of the parcels bore the Serbian flag, prompting investigators to note a possible Balkan criminal dimension. Sasha Georgievic of the Global Initiative on Transnational Organized Crime said, “The Serbian flag on the packages is not proof that the cocaine was intended for the Serbian market, nor that Serbian criminal groups are behind the trade.” Liberian authorities warned that the use of a diplomatic passport may indicate cooperation from state actors, but no formal charges have been filed yet.
