Serbia media organizations challenge broadcasting legality and political pressure
Sixteen media and civil society organizations have submitted a request to Telekom Srbija to immediately cease the unauthorized terrestrial broadcasting of Informer and Kurir television programs. While these channels hold permits for cable, satellite, and IPTV distribution, they lack authorization for national terrestrial broadcasting. The organizations argue that by enabling this access, Telekom Srbija is bypassing the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) and unfairly granting these channels national reach ahead of parliamentary elections.
Separately, the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) has condemned accusations made by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) against Radio Television of Serbia (RTS). The SNS accused the public broadcaster of intentionally interrupting an interview with President Aleksandar Vučić. UNS characterized these accusations as unacceptable and an attempt to pressure the editorial policy of the public service, noting that the full interview was later aired following technical issues.
