Serbia medical experts seek updated driving rules for epilepsy patients

In Serbia, medical professionals are calling for a revision of driving regulations for patients with epilepsy. Currently, rules are based on outdated 1982 Yugoslav regulations, which were adapted from 1940s American standards. Under these rules, patients can regain their driver's licenses if they remain seizure-free and off medication for two years.

Neurologists and medical commissions have suggested that individuals with well-controlled epilepsy who regularly take medication and remain seizure-free for a specific period should be permitted to hold a Category B license. This proposal, which does not apply to professional drivers, is currently awaiting a decision from the Ministry of Health.
