Serbia observes feast of Saint Theodosia of Tarsus with traditional customs

Serbian Orthodox believers mark the feast of Saint Theodosia of Tarsus, recalling her martyrdom in the early 4th century. According to tradition, she urged imprisoned Christians to stay firm in their faith during the persecution of Emperor Maximinus. She was sentenced to have a stone tied around her neck and be thrown into the sea, but angels rescued her, after which she was later beheaded.

Folklore linked to the day advises people to avoid using ropes, washing, or spreading laundry, believing that doing so could bring misfortune, infertility for women, or bad luck for men. The observance is celebrated throughout Serbia with prayers and cautionary household practices.
