Serbia processes 333,870 property registrations under new law

Under the “Svoj na svome” (Own on His Own) law, Serbia has processed 333,870 property registration cases in less than six months. Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijević reported that over 250,000 citizens and legal entities have been successfully entered into the real estate cadastre.

During the initial application period, which ran from December 8 to February 5, more than 2.5 million applications were submitted. Officials estimate the total number of cases requiring processing by the Agency for Spatial Planning and Urbanism could reach between 3.2 and 3.5 million. The program allows owners to legally manage their property through sales, inheritance, mortgages, and connection to utility infrastructure.

Registration fees ranged from 100 to 1,000 euros depending on location and size, though certain groups—including social welfare recipients, persons with disabilities, veterans, and single parents—were exempt from payment. For those who missed the deadline due to justified reasons, the final date for late applications is October 24.

Additionally, the Minister noted that the budget for local road rehabilitation has nearly doubled following a budget rebalance, and 150 million euros has been approved through cooperation with the Council of Europe, with approximately 50 million euros expected to be realized this year.
