Serbia plans to introduce free dental services by 2027

President Aleksandar Vučić has announced a plan to expand dental services in Serbia to be free of charge for all citizens by the end of 2027. The implementation is expected to occur in phases, beginning in March 2027 with elderly citizens receiving priority access to these services.

To realize this initiative, the government will need to secure significant additional funding from the state budget. While specific details regarding which dental interventions will be covered and the exact criteria for eligibility have not yet been released, the measure aims to alleviate the financial burden on adults who currently pay for much of their dental care. Currently, certain groups, such as children and those with disabilities, already have access to specific dental services through mandatory health insurance.

This announcement follows a period of significant investment in the Serbian healthcare system, which has included the reconstruction of major clinical centers in Belgrade, Niš, Novi Sad, and Kragujevac, as well as the procurement of advanced diagnostic equipment and the reduction of co-payments for various medications.
