Serbia: Student video targeting Vučić sparks political outcry
A pre-election video titled ‘Serbia Did Not Want Him’, produced by students of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDU) in Belgrade, has sparked intense political controversy in Serbia. The black-and-white video features clips of President Aleksandar Vučić interspersed with footage of protests and messages from citizens.
Ana Brnabić, President of the National Assembly, held an emergency press conference to condemn the video, describing it as ‘monstrous’ and a ‘turning point in the campaign’. She specifically interpreted a final scene featuring soap in a prison cell as a direct threat of sexual violence against President Vučić. Brnabić has called upon European partners and the European Parliament to review the footage to determine if it aligns with democratic values.
In a separate related development, Živko Gvozdenović addressed accusations following a video where he used the term ‘ćacika’. He clarified that the term was not gendered and was intended as a colloquialism rather than a reference to women or a call for violence.
