Serbia releases 5,000 tons of diesel from state reserves
The Serbian government, acting under a technical mandate, has approved the release of 5,000 tons of euro-diesel from its mandatory state reserves into the market. Dubravka Đedović Handanović, the Minister of Mining and Energy, stated that this measure is intended to protect citizens from the impacts of the global energy crisis.
The decision follows reports of high diesel costs driven by global conflicts and logistical challenges caused by low water levels on the Danube. With consumption expected to reach approximately 205,000 tons in October, the government aims to stabilize the market. Contracts with companies are expected to be signed within the next few days to begin the withdrawal of fuel.
Despite this release, officials noted that state diesel stocks will remain at a high level, as petroleum derivative reserves have doubled since 2022 due to proactive planning.
