Serbia reports 49 workplace fatalities in 2025

In 2025, 49 workers died due to workplace accidents in Serbia, a decrease from the 59 fatalities recorded the previous year. The construction sector remains the most dangerous industry.

Labor inspectors have identified several recurring causes for these fatalities, including working in unsafe conditions, lack of proper personal protective equipment, and insufficient safety training. Common incidents involve falls from heights, working in unsecured trenches, and accidents involving heavy machinery.

Recent fatal incidents include a 46-year-old worker who fell ten meters at the New Belgrade railway station reconstruction site on September 12, and another worker who fell from the fifth floor of a building onto a trolleybus on September 9. Other notable deaths occurred at the Kolubara mining basin involving an employee of Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) in August, and at the Linglong factory in June, where a worker died while repairing malfunctioning machinery that was accidentally switched on by a colleague.
