Serbia reports border delays and weapons seizure amid heightened security checks

The Auto‑Moto Alliance of Serbia (AMSS) said passenger vehicles at the Preševo border crossing were held for about half an hour, while waiting time at the Špiljani crossing was roughly ten minutes. No delays were reported at other Serbian borders, and drivers were warned to verify vehicle condition as temperatures rose above 35 °C.

Separately, police at the Gradina crossing intercepted a pistol and nearly one hundred rounds of ammunition being smuggled into Serbia. Two Montenegrin citizens were arrested. Former intelligence officer Božidar Spasić described the find as part of a continuous fight against organized crime, noting the seized firearms were “contaminated” but could be rebuilt into functional weapons. He praised police vigilance and equipment, emphasizing that such attempts exploit summer travel crowds to bypass controls.
