Serbia: Retirement trends and early pension eligibility requirements
In Serbia, retirees are increasingly seeking part-time or freelance work to supplement their income and maintain daily routines. Popular options include childcare, where hourly rates range between 500 and 1,000 dinars, and pet sitting or house sitting, which can earn daily rates of 1,500 to 3,000 dinars. Additionally, professionals such as former teachers, musicians, or specialists can leverage their existing expertise to work with individual clients.
Regarding retirement eligibility, having benefited service (staž sa uvećanim trajanjem) does not automatically grant early retirement. To lower the age limit, two key conditions must be met: an individual must have at least 10 years of effective service in roles that qualify for increased duration, and at least two-thirds of their total insurance period must have been completed in such roles. Depending on the coefficient of increase, the age limit can be lowered, with some provisions allowing retirement as early as age 50 or 55.
