Serbia security concerns rise amid potential escalations
Former high-ranking police official Zvezdan Radojković has warned of possible "individual escalations" during the coming days in Serbia. He noted that certain individuals or informal groups may attempt to exploit the current volatile situation for various motives, potentially engaging in criminal behavior or staged incidents.
Radojković highlighted the difficulty faced by police forces in such periods, noting that while authorities aim to prevent escalation, not every incident can be predicted. He also observed instances where citizens exercised their legal right to detain individuals perceived to be acting inappropriately before handing them over to the police.
In a related development, more than 140 former and current members of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Serbian Armed Forces have issued a public appeal to security sector personnel. The appeal urges officials to remain faithful to the Constitution, the law, and their professional duties, stating they should protect citizens and serve the state rather than political parties or individuals.
