Serbia sees increased snake activity near residential areas

Residents in Kraljevo and across Serbia are reporting an increase in snake sightings near residential buildings, parks, and streets. This follows a notable incident in Belgrade where a woman woke up to find a snake coiled around her head and neck after returning from a camping trip.

Snake expert Vladica Stanković explains that the increased activity is due to seasonal changes. Unlike during periods of intense heat when snakes remain dormant in hidden locations, the current weather conditions have made them more active as they prepare for brumation, or winter sleep. The timing of this transition depends on fluctuating weather patterns.
