Serbia synchronizes housing subsidies for families in rural areas
The Serbian Ministry for Family and Demography and the Ministry for Rural Welfare have signed a memorandum of cooperation to synchronize housing subsidies for families. This initiative aims to combat depopulation by encouraging citizens to live in or return to rural areas.
Under the new agreement, eligible mothers with young children will be able to simultaneously utilize two different state financial supports: a non-refundable grant for purchasing a rural house with land, and a subsidy for the purchase of a first property granted upon the birth of a child. Previously, regulations only allowed for the use of one of these measures at a time.
The rural development support can reach up to 1.5 million dinars, while the family and demography ministry offers a subsidy equivalent to 20 percent of the property value. The program, supported by President Aleksandar Vučić, has already provided homes to 1,727 families since 2022, with approximately 28 million euros invested toward this goal.
