Serbia to begin cash aid for pensioners in early September

The Serbian government announced that a one‑time cash assistance package, valued at about €377 million, will be paid to roughly 1.66 million pensioners. Recipients are divided into three groups: pensions up to 31,092 RSD receive 35,000 RSD, those earning 31,092–56,851 RSD receive 27,500 RSD, and higher‑earning pensioners receive 20,000 RSD.

Payments, originally slated for late September or early October, could start at the beginning of September after stronger‑than‑expected budget revenues gave the Finance Ministry room to accelerate the rollout. In addition to cash, the programme includes 30,000 tourism vouchers of 10,000 RSD each for pensioners earning under 80,000 RSD and a 1,000 RSD electricity discount for eligible households. The aid is financed from existing budget surpluses, avoiding new borrowing.
