Serbia to implement caregiver status and 65,000 dinar monthly allowance

The Serbian Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs has announced that starting October 1, 2026, parents can apply for official caregiver status. This status is designed for parents who are unable to participate in the standard labor market due to the continuous and intensive daily care required by their children.

Eligible caregivers will receive a monthly allowance of 65,000 dinars. The state will also cover necessary taxes and contributions, ensuring the caregiver's rights to pension, disability, and health insurance, including the accumulation of years of service.

Applications can be submitted electronically or in person at local social work centers. The Ministry aims to minimize administrative burdens, stating that once documentation is complete, the decision period will be 15 days. To assist families, a dedicated telephone information line will be established, with contact details to be released soon.
