Serbia to reform labor laws for platform economy workers
Serbia is expected to amend its Labor Law to align with international standards regarding the platform economy. The proposed changes aim to comply with the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention 193 and the European Union Directive on platform work.
According to the ILO, Serbia has one of the highest numbers of digital platform workers per capita in Europe. These workers, who utilize services such as Glovo, Wolt, and Yandex, currently operate in a legal gray area between flexibility and job insecurity.
Jovan Protić, the ILO national coordinator for Serbia, stated that the goal of these reforms is not to eliminate the platform business model, but to establish clear rules. The objective is to ensure decent work and adequate social protection for thousands of app-based workers while maintaining fair market conditions for employers.
