Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti Calls for Justice on Bytyqi Brothers' 1999 Killing

On the 27th anniversary of the 1999 killing of the Bytyqi brothers—Ylli, Agron and Mehmet, three American‑Kosovar volunteers—Prime Minister Albin Kurti spoke from the balcony of the Kosovo prime‑minister’s office. He reiterated that Kosovo and the international community remain obligated to secure full accountability for the murder, accusing Serbian forces of the crime and urging Serbia to accept responsibility.

Kurti thanked the United States for its continued diplomatic support in the case and recalled that the brothers’ bodies were recovered in 2001 from a mass grave at Petrovo Selo in Serbia. He warned that the passage of time does not diminish the duty to bring the perpetrators and command‑echelons before justice, and pledged that Kosovo will persist in seeking truth and punishment for those involved.

The commemoration marks the latest in a series of yearly calls to address the unresolved war‑time atrocity and to strengthen Kosovo’s pursuit of legal redress.
