Serbia Zijin Copper mining activities threaten Krivelj village

The CORE Platform for Social Development and Innovation has issued an urgent call for the Serbian government to facilitate the collective relocation of residents in the village of Krivelj, near Bor. The organization reports that mining activities by Serbia Zijin Copper are encroaching on residential areas, schools, and cemeteries, creating unsafe living conditions.

Residents report that daily blasting causes tremors that damage house walls and creates constant noise and dust. According to the platform, the company is also demolishing structures near inhabited households, which increases pressure on residents to leave the village individually.

Despite the Serbian government initiating a spatial plan for the Bor-Majdanpeć mining basin in 2014, the plan has not yet been adopted. Consequently, villagers have been waiting for over a decade for a transparent relocation process that ensures the preservation of their community, culture, and way of life.
