Serbian actresses Nataša Ninković and Nada Blam recount career setbacks and missed Hollywood opportunities

Serbian actress Nataša Ninković, one of the country’s most respected performers, describes a near‑breakthrough in Hollywood after being recommended by Sergej Trifunović for a role in a film produced by Oliver Stoun. She advanced through several audition rounds, befriended lead actor Denis Kvejd, and visited his Los Angeles home where she met his wife, actress Meg Ryan. Despite the opportunity, accent concerns and uncertainty led Ninković to decline further work in the United States and remain in Belgrade.

Actress Nada Blam, whose career spans more than four‑decades, recalled her early days after graduating from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. She entered television in 1972 with the series “Pozorište u kući.” In a recent interview she told how a missed performance resulted in a disciplinary salary cut, a memorable early setback that shaped her professional resolve. Blam also spoke about the challenges of dubbing work in the pre‑digital era, low actor wages, and the necessity for performers to supplement their income.
