Serbian and Bosnian pension funds issue alerts on retirement eligibility and contribution checks
The Pension and Disability Insurance (PIO) Fund of Republika Srpska clarified the rules for early retirement based on a special double‑duration service period. This period counts time served by members of the former Yugoslav People's Army and other armed forces during the 1990‑1992 conflicts, as well as time spent in captivity or medical rehabilitation, and is credited at a 100 % increase. The Fund stated that individuals can request the removal of this special service decision, after which the extra credit cannot be reinstated.
In Serbia, the PIO Fund warned future retirees that missing or incomplete contribution records—caused by bankrupt companies, military service, maternity leave, or contract work—can significantly reduce pension benefits. It provided a step‑by‑step guide for checking personal contribution histories online via the e‑Citizen portal using a PIN or eID, and advised contacting employers or labour inspection to rectify any gaps before filing a pension claim.
