Serbian athletes gear up for 2024 Mediterranean Games in Taranto
Prime Minister Djurо Maцut said the upcoming Mediterranean Games in Taranto represent a major sporting competition and an opportunity for Serbian athletes to gain experience, showcase talent, discipline and unity. He attended the send‑off ceremony at the Serbian Olympic Committee, noting that “everything you do will be a pride of Serbia.”
The Serbian delegation numbers 147 members and aims to build on the 32 medals won at previous editions of the Games, now celebrating the 20th anniversary of the event. Olympic Committee president Dejan Tomasevic praised the country's support for sport and the historic success of Serbian medalists at both the Olympics and Mediterranean Games.
Italian ambassador to Serbia Luca Gori expressed joy over the strong sporting ties between the two nations and wished the team the best results, adding that athletes will feel at home in Taranto. The Games run from 21 August to 3 September in Taranto, Italy.
