Serbian Bar Association board member urges protests over lawyer attacks

Čedomir Kokanović, a member of the board of the Belgrade Bar Association, said attacks on lawyers in Serbia are increasing and that the legal profession can no longer remain safe. He cited recent incidents such as the arson of Violet Tasić’s car in Leskovac, threats against her, the charging of Nikola Mirković from Valjevo with assaulting police while defending police‑brutality victims, and the assault on Miloš Pavlović and the beating of Danka Cvejić in front of children.

Kokanović urged the bar to raise its voice, organize street protests and establish an emergency response system that would notify authorities within 30 minutes of any attack on a lawyer. He criticized the police and judiciary for acting only when pressured from above and called for decisive, swift action by the legal community to protect its members.
