Serbian basketball leadership faces dispute between KSS President and Assembly
A leadership dispute has emerged within the Basketball Federation of Serbia (KSS) between Assembly President Goran Lazić and KSS President Nebojša Čović. Lazić has accused Čović of exercising “legal violence” over Serbian basketball, alleging that Čović is disregarding decisions made by the KSS Assembly and attempting to seize control of the KLS league from the clubs.
Lazić cited a May 15 conclusion from the Assembly that prohibits the KSS President from interfering in KLS operations or signing new contracts without Assembly consent. He warned that those obstructing the process would face criminal and material responsibility and announced plans to call an emergency extraordinary session of the Assembly.
In response, Nebojša Čović contested these claims, stating that the Assembly's conclusion cannot legally alter statutory competencies or dictate the actions of the Management Board. Čović argued that the KLS is an independent legal entity and that the Assembly lacks the authority to command clubs regarding meeting attendance or to threaten them with legal action for discussing national competition organization.
