Serbian beekeepers export nearly three tons of honey to China

Serbian beekeepers have exported nearly three tons of honey to China, a significant increase from the 700 kilograms exported to the same market during the same period last year. This trade expansion follows the alignment of veterinary certificates between the two nations and the registration of the “Naš med” plant in China.

To facilitate faster exports, the Association of Beekeeping Organizations of Serbia (SPOS) is purchasing an automatic packaging machine for its facility in Rača. Funded by a 31 million dinar grant from the Ministry of Economy to the Municipality of Rača, the machine can pack 2,000 jars per hour. This technology allows honey to be shipped in jars rather than barrels, reducing the packaging time for truckloads from three weeks to one or two days.

Rodoljub Živadinović, president of SPOS, noted that expanding into the Chinese market could potentially increase purchase prices for beekeepers by 30 to 50 percent. While the 2026 season saw record yields for linden honey, Živadinović warned that climate change, droughts, and rising costs remain long-term challenges for the industry.
