Serbian Constitutional Court President Vladan Petrov Prepares Court for Upcoming Elections

Vladan Petrov, the president of Serbia’s Constitutional Court, said the court is preparing for the forthcoming national elections and may issue clear public guidance on when citizens can approach the Court before voting. He noted systemic irregularities reported after the last elections and stressed that resolving them requires strong legal oversight by national institutions in coordination with international bodies such as the ODIHR.

Petrov described the “student list” that intends to run in the elections as a non‑identifiable political entity that will present itself as a group of citizens rather than a formal party, warning that this approach could be counter‑productive. He warned that without fixing the irregularities the upcoming vote could be deemed illegal and illegitimate, and highlighted the role of both domestic and international legal institutions as guarantors of a free electoral process.
