Serbian Court Likely to Convict Croatian Pilots for 1995 Petrovacka Attack

Director of the Documentation‑Information Center “Veritas”, Savо Štrbac, said he expects Serbia’s courts to issue a first‑instance conviction by the end of the year against the Croatian Air Force pilots who bombed a civilian refugee convoy on Petrovacka cesta near Bosanski Petrovac in August 1995. He attended a ceremony marking the 31st anniversary of the attack and noted that the pilots would be barred from travel and that victims’ families could seek material compensation. Acting director of the Republic Center for War Research, Viktor Nuzdich, echoed the expectation of a conviction, stressing that the convoy was not a military target but a humanitarian one.

Štrbac also highlighted that, to date, no one has been held accountable for the killing of nine Krajina Serb soldiers on Dinara in 1995, describing the lack of justice for those victims. He recalled the discovery of their remains and the ongoing commemoration of the broader “Oluja” operation, which resulted in over 1,900 deaths and disappearances of Serbs from the former Yugoslavia.
