Former Belgrade Police Chief Veselin Milić Released from Detention
On 6 July 2026 the council of the Higher Court in Belgrade ruled that the legal basis for keeping former Belgrade Police Directorate chief Veselin Milić in pre‑trial detention had expired. He was released from the Central Prison in Belgrade and will continue to defend himself in the ongoing criminal case.
Milić is charged with failing to report a crime and its perpetrator in relation to the 12 May killing of Aleksandar Nešović, known as “Baja”, at the “27” restaurant in the Senjak district. The investigation also involves Saša Vuković, who has admitted to the murder and remains in detention, and the victim’s body was later found near Jarkovačko lake. The same day the court altered the measure for Vuković’s wife, Danki Vuković, placing her under house arrest with electronic monitoring.
