Serbian diaspora in the Netherlands seeks more polling stations
The Serbian diaspora in the Netherlands, represented by the group ‘Serbs in the Netherlands’, has issued an open letter to Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen regarding the upcoming extraordinary parliamentary elections in Serbia scheduled for October 25. The group is calling on the European Union to ensure conditions for free and fair elections in Serbia, citing reports of potential irregularities since the election announcement.
The group is requesting comprehensive international observation of the electoral process and timely diplomatic action. They are also advocating for the opening of additional polling stations in the Netherlands, noting that previously, citizens could only vote in The Hague.
In preparation for the elections, members of the Serbian community have undergone training to serve as election observers in the Netherlands on October 25. Additionally, a gathering is planned for September 26 at Waterplein West square in Amsterdam to inform voters of their rights and emphasize the importance of democratic standards.
