Serbian double‑scull rowers Mačković and Pimenov head to European Championships in Varese

World vice‑champions Martin Mačković and Nikolaj Pimenov travelled to Varese, Italy, where the European Rowing Championships will be held from 31 July to 2 August. The Serbian duo, fresh from a season that included bronze and silver medals at this year’s World Cups and a gold win at the Henley Regatta, will compete in the men’s double‑scull event, which features 18 crews.

The competition adopts a new format: the two fastest crews from each qualification group advance directly to the next round, while remaining places are allocated based on qualification times, eliminating traditional repechage races. Serbia’s team also includes Jovana Arsić in the women’s single‑scull and the pair Slavnić/Beđik in the double‑scull. Selector and coach Nikola Stojić highlighted the importance of the Varese meet as a final test before the World Championships in Amsterdam scheduled for less than a month later.
