Serbian experts outline key nutrients for brain health and summer supplement needs
Serbian nutrition specialists highlight that a varied diet rich in omega‑3 fatty acids, B‑vitamins (especially folate), essential amino acids, zinc, magnesium, iron and vitamin D is crucial for maintaining brain function, mood and mental health. They stress that most nutrients should be obtained from whole foods such as fish, leafy greens, legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds, and that supplements are only warranted when laboratory tests confirm a deficiency.
The experts also note seasonal changes: summer sunlight increases vitamin D synthesis, yet indoor work, sunscreen use and limited outdoor exposure often leave many people deficient. Heat and sweating raise the loss of magnesium and other electrolytes, which can cause fatigue, muscle cramps and irritability. They recommend monitoring blood levels, consuming magnesium‑rich foods (pumpkin seeds, nuts, leafy vegetables) and, if necessary, supplementing vitamin D and magnesium under medical guidance.
