Serbian ex‑police chief Nemanja Đuran released on bail pending investigation

Nemanja Đuran, former head of Serbia’s Criminal Police Directorate, was released from pre‑trial detention on the condition that he remains free while the case proceeds. The Higher Court in Belgrade confirmed his release and imposed a restriction prohibiting him from approaching or communicating with witnesses.

Đuran was arrested on a Special Anti‑Corruption Unit order after an incident on 5 November 2025 at the Steak and Wine Bar, where firearms were used in the presence of numerous patrons. He is accused of abuse of official position, allegedly influencing other suspects to tamper with evidence that could link Saša Vuković to offenses including endangering public safety and illegal possession of weapons and explosives. Đuran was dismissed from the Ministry of Internal Affairs on 15 May after three consecutive days of absenteeism, just two days before being questioned in the public prosecutor’s office regarding a separate murder investigation on Senjak and the arrest of former Belgrade police chief Vselin Milić.
