Serbian Finance Minister Mali reports progress in MOL talks over NIS Russian stake
Serbia's finance minister Siniša Mali said negotiations with Hungarian oil group MOL have advanced regarding the purchase of the Russian share in Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS). He expects a response from MOL to Serbia's latest proposal today or tomorrow and aims to conclude the current round of talks by the end of the week.
MOL has received an official OFAC licence extending negotiations on the acquisition until 6 June, while NIS was granted a U.S. Treasury licence that allows it to continue oil‑processing activities through 16 June. Mali added that the government has stabilized fuel prices by replenishing strategic reserves and maintaining reduced fuel excise duties, which he said helped avoid an inflation spike and shortages.
The minister emphasized that Serbia remains committed to a swift resolution and will keep supporting the market to protect citizens from the global energy‑price shock.
