Serbian Forest Fire Near Luchica Village Claims One Life

A new forest fire broke out near the village of Luchica, close to Požarevac in Serbia, spreading rapidly over more than 300 hectares due to strong winds. Assistant Minister and head of the Emergency Situations Sector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Luka Čaušić said that more than 80 personnel from the sector, volunteer fire units and the "Vojvodina" unit are currently involved in extinguishing the fire, with three Ministry helicopters – a Kamov Ka‑32, an H215 Super Puma and an H145 – deployed from the air. Heavy machinery is also being sent to contain the blaze.

Čaušić warned citizens not to light open fires, citing the extreme temperatures and heightened fire risk across Serbia. He also reported a tragic incident in the same area where a man died after allegedly starting the fire himself, urging the public to exercise maximum caution.
