Serbian Green-Left Front condemns assaults on professors and university autonomy

The Zeleno-levi front (ZLF) issued a statement expressing solidarity with Stevan Filipović, a professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, who was violently beaten in central Belgrade during the night. The party demanded an immediate investigation of the attack, the arrest of the perpetrators, and warned that such intimidation threatens all citizens who witness violence.

ZLF also announced that Milutin Kostić, coordinator of its Political Council and a psychiatry docent at the University of Belgrade's Medical Faculty, is being persecuted for defending university autonomy. The party cited ongoing pressures, attempts to challenge his doctorate, removal from a hospital leadership post, and a campaign to damage his career. It accused authorities of using the ethics committee to target him and said it would prepare a criminal complaint, alleging that documents in the ethics case originated from the same computer.

Both statements accuse the Serbian authorities of intimidation, legal harassment, and undermining the independence of academic institutions, urging continued defense of university autonomy and the rule of law.
