Serbian Hospital Sets Birth Record with Nine Babies in One Hour
At the Clinical Hospital Center "Dr Dragiša Mišović" in Belgrade, nine babies were delivered within a single hour, establishing a new record for the facility. Six of the infants came from three twin pregnancies, while three other mothers each gave birth to a single baby. Chief of Gynecology and Obstetrics Dr Slađana Mihajlović described the day as “one of the most beautiful” of her career, noting that all deliveries proceeded smoothly and that both mothers and newborns are healthy.
In the preceding 24 hours more than 18 babies were born at the hospital, and since the start of the year the centre has welcomed over 2,500 newborns. The hospital, which is marking its 100‑year anniversary, has recently expanded its neonatal department in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the Children's Hospital to accommodate the high birth volume. The institution also now allows partners to be present at deliveries, further supporting families.
The record highlights the coordinated effort of obstetricians, anesthesiologists, midwives and neonatologists at the centre.
