Serbian journalist Danica Vučenić receives death threats, sparking regional press‑freedom concerns

SafeJournalists condemned a letter sent from Maribor that threatened the life of N1 reporter Danica Vučenić and members of her family, stating “We will kill your loved ones, mare”. The organisation urged Serbian police and prosecutors to identify the sender, protect the journalist and investigate promptly. The threats follow a pattern of intimidation against N1 staff after their coverage of the Novi Sad train‑station collapse and subsequent protests.

In Montenegro, NGO director Darko Ivanović warned that criminal complaints filed by the director of the National Security Agency against journalists represent a serious societal problem. He argued that using legal measures to silence journalists undermines democratic principles and calls for stronger protection of press freedom across the Balkans.
