Serbian journalists Vidojković and Kulačin face fresh death threats

The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM), which runs a SOS line for journalists, reported a new death threat directed at reporters Marko Vidojković and Nenad Kulačin. The threat was posted on the Instagram account "lesicslobodan" of the portal Nova.rs shortly after ANEM disclosed that an earlier threat had been reported.

The message contained vulgar profanity and a call to kill the journalists. ANEM promptly forwarded the threat to the Special Prosecutor’s Office for High‑Tech Crime in Belgrade.

ANEM contrasted the swift arrests made when threats targeted ministers, the president Aleksandar Vučić, or senior prosecutors with the limited response to threats against media workers. Of 111 cases filed over the past year and a half concerning journalist threats, only one resulted in a final court ruling. The association called for equal application of the law and noted that its project on journalist safety is supported by the European Union.
