Serbian media groups petition to revoke TV Informer license
The Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS), alongside civil society organizations, media associations, and journalism departments from universities in Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Niš, is submitting an initiative to the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) to revoke the broadcasting license of TV Informer.
NUNS stated the initiative is a response to years of systematic violations of laws and programming obligations that REM has failed to sanction. This move follows recent unrest in Belgrade, where demonstrators clashed with police following an incident at the TV Informer premises.
REM member Dubravka Valić Nedeljković indicated that approximately 80 complaints against electronic media, including those involving TV Informer, are expected to be reviewed by the Council. She noted that the current political context in Serbia may allow for a different approach to regulatory work, though the final outcome and pace of decision-making remain uncertain. The Council is currently awaiting the election of a ninth member to complete its composition.
