Serbian media outlets Vranje News and Bečejski Mozaik receive threatening messages
The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) reported that two local Serbian news portals, Vranje News and Bečejski Mozaik, were targeted with threatening and harassing messages. The messages, sent from the email accounts "cveticaninzeljko06@gmail.com" and "[email protected]", contained threats against journalists, their families and even children, following reports published by the outlets.
ANEM noted that similar threats have previously been sent to other regional portals, such as Magločistač, IN Medija, and Južne vesti, but no perpetrator has been identified or prosecuted. ANEM called on state authorities to protect journalists, investigate the incidents, and stop the toxic rhetoric from officials that fuels such violence. Veran Matić, president of ANEM's board, warned that independent journalists are operating under some of the toughest conditions in Europe and urged immediate legal and protective measures.
