Serbian Minister Boris Bratina Attends Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's Funeral in Tehran
Serbia’s minister of information and telecommunications, Boris Bratina, travelled to Tehran on 3 July and signed the condolence book on behalf of the Serbian government and people. He expressed sympathy for Iranians after the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on 28 February in an American‑Israeli air strike.
In Tehran Bratina was received by deputy minister Mohammad Hafez Hakami and met with Iran’s minister of ICT Sejde Satar Hashemi and foreign minister Abas Araghi. The talks covered bilateral cooperation in information and communications technology and reaffirmed solidarity between the two nations. Iran’s officials praised Serbia’s “solidarity and compassion,” while Serbian opposition figures criticised the visit as evidence of a lack of alignment with EU foreign‑policy coordination.
The funeral ceremony is a multi‑day event with Khamenei’s body displayed at the Grand Mausoleum and expected to draw millions of mourners, marking a rare high‑profile diplomatic engagement for Serbia in the Middle East.
