Serbian Minister Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski proposes parent‑caregiver law to count caregiving days as work seniority

Minister Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski announced a draft Law on the status of parent‑caregiver that would treat every day of child care as part of a parent's work record. The measure aims to give parents continuity in pension and unemployment rights, allowing periods of care shorter than the current 15‑year threshold to be added to total employment seniority.

The proposal also revises the monthly allowance, setting a base amount of 65,000 dinars that will be indexed each 1 March to the average Serbian salary, resulting in a gross payment of roughly 90,000 dinars. The new benefit will be paid alongside existing child‑care allowances and will not suspend other locally provided services. The bill is expected to be presented to the National Assembly in July.
